Hearing aids seem to be the easiest to find. It does suck that we can’t get another manufacturers implants, but at the same time I don’t know of any manufactures offering any.

These people also work for Cochlear, so I don’t trust their opinion at all. I’ve tried looking up articles and forums to see if anyone else has had these issues, but most of the articles I’m seeing are people saying how great the new stuff is. I was considering writing a letter to several different people/departments within the Cochlear company, but they don’t have mailing addresses available on the website for these individuals, so it’s highly likely my letter wouldn’t even make it to these people. I strongly believe if they made whatever setting causes these issues optional, the processors would work just fine! The N7 came out a few months after and there really aren’t any changes. The only difference is one is behind the ear and the other is not. The N6 and kanso came out at the same time. My audiologist told me that the kanso, N6, and the N7 are all the same technology. I totally understand what you mean when you say sounds are faded/muted/missing or a bit off! That’s mostly the problem I had with the kanso, only it was super dramatic to the point where I couldn’t hear anything expect super low mumbling. On a side note, I was told (by an audiologist) that the old CI BTEs are checked/serviced and then shipped off to third world countries to be used by people cannot afford the latest CI devices. They said I could get in touch with Cochlear Ltd regarding the N6 issues - but their main office is in another country, so I didn't bother.Īs you said, the newer gadgets are not necessarily better, superior, etc to the previous generations - it is a myth that needs busting in the CI industry.Īlso, it is a pity that we can't buy/use another manufacturer's BTE to replace Cochlear BTE - just like you can do in the HA sector. The Freedom BTE did everything without needing "assistance" - so why does the N6 need that "extra help"? That boggles my mind.Īfter the last remapping session, they "loaned" me a Freedom BTE and warned me that once it is broken, it cannot be repaired/serviced. Don't get me started on why I don't use the accessories with the N6 to overcome these issues. Upping the volume on the BTE doesn't resolve these issues, nor tweaking the electrodes and trying various program options. Without this, sounds are faded/muted/missing/a bit off. I use N6 every now and then for a few months, but fall back to the Freedom.īiggest problem I have with the N6 is the lack of microphone sensitivity range adjustment. Freedom BTE is the one I use most of the time. I have the Nucleus CI in one ear and have a HA in the other ear. Like you, I'm a similar situation - but don't have a good resolution to this issue. Has anyone had similar experiences and were you able to find a resolution?

I can’t be the only person who feels this way. New technology is supposed to be better, but it just isn’t. Never in the 17 years that I’ve had a cochlear was there such a dramatic change where I could hear with an old processor and the new processor was worse. I met one person on vacation who also has a nucleus 5 and had these same issues with the kanso and new technology. The audiologist said that the kanso and the new nucleus 7 (they’re the same, but just look different) were meant to pick out the sounds and tune out everything else, but I did none of that. I had none of these issues with my nucleus 5. I was not able to hear a baby crying next to me, I couldn’t hear trucks or even fire trucks coming, I couldn’t hear someone speaking in my ear, and music sounded like static. I had to get the implant mapped out 4 times and it still didn’t do any good. The kanso and the new cochlear technology is absolutely horrible. I currently have a nucleus 5 and I tried the kanso in the summer of 2017. Of course every few years they would discontinue the implant I had and I would be forced to upgrade. The tagayasan-wood handles are contoured for an easy, comfortable chef's grip.I’m 25 years old and I have had a cochlear implant since I was 8 years old.

It offers a wider heel and a fairly flat profile toward the heel-perfect for push cuts-but Shun also gave it a little belly from mid-blade toward the tip so that it can be gently "rocked" through fresh herbs or spices to produce a very fine mince. The Kanso Chef's Knife is based on its Asian counterpart, the GYUTO. This all-purpose knife is ideal for a wide variety of cutting tasks.
